Magnus Mackalbener, Engineering Director and the Head of Transmission Development of Scania CV AB has been chosen as the Influencer of the Year at Management Event's 600Minutes Innovation and Product Development in Sweden.
Management Events’ Influencer of the Year award is given annually to a person who has shown excellence in leadership or great contribution to their company. The nominees were named by the awards committee, which consists of the events Advisory Board members and the winner is chosen by the participants of the event.
This year the other candidates were Emma Nordell and Jakob Söderström from Lantmännen, Mats Moberg from Volvo Car Group.
Magnus won the Influencer of the Year for his leadership at Scania that promotes a creative environment for their employees where they are allowed to take risks. “Not taking the risk today is to risk future success”, the winner summons.
“I think one of the most important things you can do as a manager and a leader is to realize that you do not have the responsibility to come up with the ideas, but you definitely have the responsibility to create an environment for the creative ideas to thrive”, says Mackaldener. According to him leaders often neglect idea generation as one of their responsibilities. Of course new ideas come with certain risks but in the winner’s own words: “The easiest way is always to say no, but to avoid mistakes is not the same as searching for success.”
Scania has also been awarded the Ferdinand Porsche Price for developing exhaust gas cleaning in response to new EU legislation. In this case the company was the first on the market and had the product with the best performance, minimum size and by far the lowest product cost.
